News sport : Auburn restaurant promises free burgers to new defensive coordinator (Photo)

With Ellis Johnson out the door, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn is searching for a new defensive coordinator. To help Malzahn’s cause, one restaurant in Auburn is offering some assistance.

Per The War Eagle Reader, in efforts to make the position even more enticing, the Krystal restaurant in Auburn is offering the new defensive coordinator a sackful of burgers.

For those uninitiated (like me as of 10 minutes before writing this), Krystal is a fast food restaurant that sells small, square-shaped hamburgers, much like White Castle.

“I’ve already told the manager – whoever it is, if they come in, we’ll give it to them,” said Tom Wadsworth, owner of the Krystal on South College Street in Auburn. “I think it’ll be the turning in the decision-making.”

Wadsworth has one particular candidate in mind, too.

“Well obviously (former Florida coach Will) Muschamp would be a good choice, but there are other good ones out there I’m sure," he said.

Johnson was fired by Auburn on Sunday after his defense gave up 389 yards per game as the Tigers went 8-4 this season.

"This is part of the business and I totally understand," Johnson said in a statement. "I did think we were good in several areas, but overall it wasn't good enough. I’m disappointed for our players, but this is a results business. I want to thank Coach Malzahn and Auburn for the opportunity the last two years."
