News sport : Young boy with cancer sends Ohio State QB Cardale Jones inspiration

All eyes will be on Cardale Jones this week as he prepares to make his first start as Ohio State’s quarterback in the Big Ten title game against Wisconsin.

But one young fan wanted Jones to know he’s got his back.

Joshua Chambers, who is battling high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia, has sent the Buckeyes several messages and well-wishes throughout the season, but the one he sent to Jones on Monday might have been the most poignant.

“Hi Cardale. Be Brave. If I can beat cancer, you can beat Wisconsin. Go Bucks!"

Joshua is currently in remission, but will continue chemotherapy treatments through June 2016. His story is detailed on his Facebook page.

Joshua’s father, Jeremy Chambers, told Fox Sports he hoped his son’s message would give Jones extra confidence going into a tough situation. Jones replaces All-Big Ten quarterback J.T. Barrett, who suffered a broken ankle last week. Barrett already had broken several school records and was likely on his way to a Heisman invite.

Saturday’s game against Wisconsin not only would secure a Big Ten title for the Buckeyes, but also perhaps a spot in the College Football Playoff.

"The Cardale video was to hopefully lend an ounce of inspiration to him in the midst of what seems to be a lot of doubt surrounding his ability,” Jeremy Chambers said. “Joshua believes that he can do it, and that the Buckeyes will win.”
