Real playing very badly - Ancelotti

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti did not mince his words after the Champions League holders managed to get past Schalke 04 into the quarter-finals by the skin of their teeth.

Madrid - Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti did not mince his words after the Champions League holders managed to get past Schalke 04 into the quarter-finals by the skin of their teeth and were whistled off the pitch.

Real slumped to a stunning 4-3 home reverse to the battling Bundesliga side, who came within a goal of pulling off a remarkable upset after losing last month's first leg in Gelsenkirchen 2-0.

“There are problems across the board,” the Italian told a news conference. “In attack, in defence, in a lack of fight, motivation and concentration,” he added.

“It is not good for our image and that of the club. The whistles were totally justified.

“We have to work harder and focus more. We have to have more of everything.”

It was the latest poor performance from Ancelotti's expensively-assembled team, who surrendered top spot in La Liga to Barcelona when they were beaten 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao at the weekend, and their first home defeat in Europe's elite club competition since April 2011.

In recent weeks, Real have been a shadow of the side that romped to a Spanish record 22 straight wins at the end of last year and Ancelotti said Tuesday's showing confirmed the team were playing “very badly”.

Real have little time to set things right with a trip to Barca for the La Liga 'Clasico' looming on March 22.

Barca's front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez have been in prolific form since the turn of the year, while Real's forwards Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale have gone off the boil.

Ronaldo did score twice on Tuesday, taking his tally in European competition to a record 78 goals, but it did not mask what was a generally disappointing showing from the team.

One bright spot was the return from a long-term injury of Luka Modric, who came on as a second-half substitute.

Real have missed the control he gives them in central midfield and he was given a huge ovation when he replaced the ineffective Sami Khedira.

“He will give us more control of the ball, so we are more effective,” Ancelotti said.

“We can't demand too much of him, we have to take things slowly. He played well for 30 minutes and he will help us.” - Reuters

News sport : Jason Worilds, coveted free agent linebacker, retires at 27

It's hard to criticize NFL players for retiring while they're still in their athletic prime, with whatever health they have left and money they've accumulated. It's not an easy profession.

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Jason Worilds became the third player to retire from the NFL in recent days, despite what was likely to be a big contract in free agency. He is just 27. He joins quarterback Jake Locker and linebacker Patrick Willis in early retirement. Locker and Willis walked away at 26 and 30 years old this week, respectively.

Worilds' agent Jason Bernstein sent out a four-part message on Twitter from Worilds on his decision.

"I appreciate all of the interest from the organizations that have reached out to us the past few days," Worilds said, via Bernstein's Twitter posts. "With that being said, after much thought and consideration I have chosen to step away from football as I have opted to pursue other interests. I am especially grateful of the opportunity to play before some of the greatest fans in football today. Despite any concern and speculation that may ensue, I appreciate those that are respectful of my decision."

There's no question Worilds would have landed with some team and made a good salary for the next few years, as one of the top pass rushers on the free-agent market. The Steelers put the transition tag on him last year, which paid him $9.75 million. He had a good year too, with seven-and-a-half sacks. Since becoming a regular starter in 2013 Worilds had 15.5 sacks in 31 games.

But again, the NFL is not always an easy life, no matter how much they get paid. Willis said he walked away because of injuries to his feet, aware of other players who had suffered physically after retirement. Locker had dealt with injuries too and said he didn't have the desire necessary to play professionally anymore.

Most people can't imagine walking away from the glamourous side of the NFL, especially with the chance to make a small fortune for a few more years. But Worilds, like Willis and Locker, just didn't want to play anymore, no matter the paycheck. It's understandable.

News sport : Ticket punched: Valparaiso wins defensive battle to capture Horizon title

Valparaiso went more than 6 minutes without scoring in the first half of its Horizon League championship game battle with Green Bay on Tuesday night, but the Phoenix endured an even uglier stretch in the second half and Valparaiso took full advantage in its 54-44 win.

[DraftKings: Play Conference Championship Fantasy College Basketball. Free Entry to Cash Contest with First Deposit.]

The Crusaders went on a 15-0 run over an 8-minute span to take charge and pull away capturing the league championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.

It was a defensive struggle on both ends. Green Bay's long scoreless stretch was a product of poor shooting. The Phoenix made only 30 percent of its shots and 13 percent from behing the 3-point line.

Valparaiso made only 37 percent of its field goal attempts and 28 percent from behind the arc in a battle of the two worst free throw shooting teams in the Horizon League. Only three players scored in double figures for both teams combined. Green Bay got 14 points from guard Keifer Sykes.

E. Victor Nickerson scored six of his 11 points for Valparaiso in the final 6 minutes, including a drive to the basket in the final minute that gave the Crusaders the breathing room they needed. David Skara came off the bench to lead the Crusaders with 12 points. He made two of his four 3-point attempts.

Valparaiso won its 28th game of the season and could be seeded as high as No. 12 when the selection committee completes its work on Sunday.

News sport : Darrelle Revis reunites with the New York Jets on a massive deal

Darrelle Revis is heading back to New York.

After winning a Super Bowl in his lone season with the Patriots, Revis, the four-time All Pro cornerback, is returning to the Jets on a deal that has more than $40 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

New England decided not to pick up Revis’ $20 million option, making him a free agent. A little less than five hours into free agency Revis came to an agreement with the Jets, where he spent his first six seasons in the league.

Revis, who had 47 tackles, 14 passes defended and two interceptions while starting all 16 games in 2014, signed a two-year, $32 million deal with New England last March which included that $20 million option for 2015. New England decided against it and hoped to renegotiate with Revis on a long-term extension. That didn’t come to fruition, and now Revis Island is back with the division rival Jets.

This move has been predicted for a while, and it will add intrigue to the tampering case brought against the Jets, presumably by the Patriots. Jets owner Woody Johnson said on Dec. 29, "I'd love Darrelle to come back," a clear rule violation because Revis was under contract with the Patriots at the time.

Though he turns 30 in July, Revis is still one of the top corners in the game. After being picked by the Jets in the first round in 2007, Revis quickly established himself as a dominant player. In addition to his four All-Pro selections, Revis also represented the AFC in the Pro Bowl six times and was the 2009 AFC defensive player of the year.

Revis wasn't the only Jets' addition in the secondary. Joining Revis on the Jets is 5-foot-9 corner Buster Skrine. Skrine, a former fifth-round pick, signed with the Jets after spending four seasons in Cleveland, where he registered 235 tackles and six interceptions in 37 career starts.

With one bold move, the Jets became one of the big winners in free agency.

News sport : The 10-man rotation, starring the rampaging Atlanta Hawks

A look around the league and the web that covers it. It's also important to note that the rotation order and starting nods aren't always listed in order of importance. That's for you, dear reader, to figure out.

C: Sports Illustrated. We’ve already linked to it twice on Tuesday, but Lee Jenkins’ profile of the 50-win (and counting) Atlanta Hawks is worth a re-read.

PF: Hardwood Paroxysm. Evans Clinchy on how uneasy it is, to some, to be pushing anyone (and, in this instance, James Harden) as clear favorites in the NBA MVP race.

SF: DNAinfo. That borderline-offensive and probably inappropriate Derrick Rose shrine was dismantled on Monday night, probably by someone who either read my angry reaction to it or someone who had to watch the Bulls blow a winnable game on Monday night.

SG: Salt Lake City Hoops. Taking a look at how the Utah Jazz have turned into a dominant defensive outfit, in ways that go far beyond the ascension of Rudy Gobert and growth of Dante Exum. This is a killer column.

PG: Washington Post. The great Michael Lee with a feature on Michael Beasley, now attempting to get it right in his third try with the Miami Heat.

6th: NBA.com. As always, the candidates for Coach of the Year run deeper than any of the NBA’s other official awards.

7th: SB Nation. With that in place, Tom Ziller and Paul Flannery discuss just how maddening it can be to try to objectively rank NBA coaches.

8th: ESPN Dallas. Dirk Nowitzki is not exactly entering winter, but he’s not all that far away from it. Sigh.

9th: AZ Central. Paul Coro talks to Danny Granger’s decision to stick with the Phoenix Suns and work with their much-envied medical staff.

10th: Portland Tribune. Adam Silver thinks that we didn’t notice the ads on jerseys over All-Star weekend.

We noticed them, Adam. We’re just too cynical and too frustrated to raise another hackle, as the NBA chases down tackier and tackier streams of revenue that will never, ever age well. Unlike the game itself.

News sport : SEC tournament preview: Will the Wildcats stumble or add a title to perfection?

The Dagger will be previewing this week's eight marquee conference tournaments. Here's our look at the Southeastern Conference tournament:

Southeastern Conference Tournament

Dates:
March 11-15

Site: Nashville, Tenn. (Bridgestone Arena)

Top four seeds: 1. Kentucky 2. Arkansas 3. Georgia 4. LSU

Draw: Click here http://ift.tt/1xbzrX4

[DraftKings: Play Conference Championship Fantasy College Basketball. Free Entry to Cash Contest with First Deposit.]

Best draw: Arkansas beat Vanderbilt and split with Tennessee in the regular season and figures to be able to get by whichever one of those teams it faces in its first game. It also split with Ole Miss and handled Georgia, its two most likely semifinal opponents. The point is there is no reason to think the Hogs can’t navigate this road to a championship game against Kentucky.

Worst draw: There is little reason to think Florida is capable of a deep run here regardless of where it ended up in the bracket, but the Gators draw a pesky Alabama team that has played in a lot of close games this season, including a two-point Florida win in their regular season matchup. If Florida wins, it gets Kentucky, which had little trouble with the Gators in the regular season and would probably like to dispatch a program that has been to four consecutive Elite Eights.

Three players to watch:

• Bobby Portis, F, Arkansas — The conference Player of the Year averaged 18 points and nine rebounds. He made at least 50 percent of his shots in 14 of 18 league games.

• Jordan Mickey, F, LSU — A first-team all-conference pick by the league’s coaches and a member of the All-Defensive team. He leads the nation in blocked shots per game but has been dealing with a shoulder injury of late.

• Karl Anthony-Towns, F, Kentucky — He has come on strong down the stretch of the regular season and now has some thinking he might be the first overall pick in this year’s NBA draft

Bubble implications: Texas A&M and Ole Miss need wins here to bolster their resumes, maybe multiple wins. There is nothing exciting about the Aggies total body of work. Nothing real ugly, but nothing to boast about either, that kind of resume can easily get passed over for others with more to chew on. Ole Miss didn’t help itself by losing at home to Vanderbilt to close the regular season. LSU has been wildly inconsistent but can occasionally play at a tantalizingly high level. A win or two for each of these teams goes along way.

Projected champ: What you thought we would go out on a limb? Come on, no one has beaten Kentucky yet and the Wildcats seem to be getting better the more they play. Only one of their final seven games was decided by a single-digit margin of victory. There might be hope that this team loses focus for a day not really valuing the conference title as it looks toward its shot at history and a national title in the NCAA Tournament, but this team has found ways to win all season in games when it wasn’t at its best.

News sport : Oklahoma stadium expansion project initially downsized

Oklahoma is restructuring plans for the expansion of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The unversity is going ahead with plans for the south end of the stadium while delaying projects in other areas of the stadium.

The original price tag of the project was estimated at $370 million. However, market factors, namely the drop in the price of oil, had made the cost untenable. On Tuesday, OU president David Boren announced at a Board of Regents meeting that the project would be done in phases.

A covered upper concourse is to be built on the south side of the stadium as well as new suites. In addition to those features, space for the university was to be added to the north side of the stadium as well as west-side upper deck renovations.

An expanded weight room is still part of the south end zone plans.

The south project is set to be complete before the 2016 season. According to the Oklahoman, the revised plan calls for 28 suites to be added to the stadium and all have been sold. Bond funds for the project were initially estimated at $250 million, but the revised estimation is now $117 million for this phase.

News sport : Following a DNP-CD, Warrior David Lee admits his new role has been 'hard at times'

Two seasons ago, Golden State Warriors forward David Lee made the All-Star team ahead of teammate Stephen Curry, in a choice that was hard to understand then and incredibly tough to fathom now. Some 25 months after that selection, Curry is working as an MVP candidate for the top-ranked Warriors, while Lee has been demoted from his starting position. Lee’s move to the bench was initially due to injury, but his status was assured when replacement Draymond Green proved to be a revelation on both ends of the ball, and secured even further when the Warriors raced out to the NBA’s best record.

Golden State still owns the league’s top mark, and while Lee is at full health right now he has found his minutes go up and down as a member of the team’s bench unit. Lee is, charitably, the team’s 11th man on most nights. And, on many NBA nights, the 11th man plays briefly or not at all. After 19 frustrating minutes (good stats, but negative impact on both sides of the court) in a W’s win over the Clippers on Sunday, David Lee did not play at all due to coach’s decision in Monday night’s win over Phoenix.

It was his second DNP-CD in three games. Don’t think first-year Warriors coach Steve Kerr isn’t aware. From Tuesday’s practice, via Monta Poole of CSN Bay Area:

"I communicate with all my players, all the time," Kerr said. "And every player is different. Every situation is different. This is a really tricky one.”

Kerr sighed and paused ever so briefly.

"David's a great player. He's been an All-Star. He's still in his prime," he went on. "What's been tricky is that we’ve developed a formula while he was out that has been very effective for us. And you compound that with the fact that the whole league is going small at the 4-position and every night you're playing a 3-point shooter at the 4 spot. We've adapted to that. We've adapted to our early-season lineups. Draymond has obviously grabbed that position. So it's tricky."

In response, Lee said the right thing and pointed out that he is “not going to put myself ahead of” the Golden State juggernaut that has won 50 games in 62 tries thus far. The 31-year old forward did point out that sitting his way through so many wins was “hard at times.”

Kerr, who came off the bench as a role player for five different NBA championship team, understands:

“And it's incredibly frustrating for him, as it should be. He's a human being."

Lee would seemingly fit in swimmingly with the Warriors as a reserve forward. He remains a very good athlete that can finish a screen and roll set in a spread offense in the lane, and his sound shooting would appear to keep defenses honest in a modern NBA that has seen teams (like the Warriors in particular) embrace more and more perimeter panache. On top of that, Lee’s defense, upon his late-December return, did appear to be much improved.

The issue is that while the Warriors do play significantly better than their opponents with Lee on the court, his on/off splits don’t in any way approximate the standout numbers the Warriors as a whole are managing against other teams. And while Lee was one of the first stretch fours to burst onto the scene nearly a decade ago, the definition is changing. These bigs are asked to shoot three-pointers, now, and Lee has attempted just 28 (making one) in his NBA career. His shooting percentage on shots outside of 16 feet has also declined over the last two seasons.

This is the price the Warriors pay for being so damn deep. Fellow reserve forward Marreese Speights has contributed significantly to several important Warriors wins this either coming off the pine or starting, and yet he’s still being bounced around – working 21 minutes one game, and two and a half minutes three games later. Justin Holiday has come out of nowhere to provide sound minutes, and Festus Ezeli’s ability to play rim protector often has him slated ahead of Lee and Speights despite mitigating play in other areas.

Steve Kerr worked under Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich, two coaches that liked to keep typical benchwarmers on their toes with random rotation placements and surprise minutes, all while keeping an open line of communication with stars and role players alike. He knows how to handle this, but it should be noted that the Lee luxury problem isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

Lee leads the Warriors in making over $15 million a year this season, a number that will jump to nearly $15.5 million next year. The trade market, more than likely, isn’t open for the Warriors to dump Lee unless they’re willing to take on even nastier contracts that run past $16 million. Even with Stephen Curry’s relatively cheap second contract on the books, and team options for Harrison Barnes and Speights only numbering a combined total of $7.7 million next year, the franchise will likely have to pay the luxury tax once it matches any offer for restricted free agent Draymond Green.

And, make no mistake, unless something ridiculous happens the Golden State Warriors will match any offer for restricted free agent Draymond Green.

So, as it stands, the Warriors will probably pay the luxury tax for a 2015-16 team that could be defending a championship run. Lee will be paid handsomely, though he’ll have to watch another potentially productive year (David still has a quite-good 19.6 Player Efficiency Rating this season) go down the tubes, and the world will continue apace.

It’s a good thing the Warriors are so chock full of good, talented dudes. After decades of irrelevancy, it’s a nice thing to boast.

News sport : Quarterback Jake Locker retires at 26 after just 30 NFL games

Quarterback Jake Locker was a first-round disappointment with the Tennessee Titans, but as he hit free agency there was at least a sliver of hope that a chance of scenery could change how he was viewed as an NFL player.

Locker had no interest.

In a surprise, Locker retired rather than try to resurrect his career. He's just 26 years old. He played just 30 NFL games. He made about $12.5 million, the windfall from being the eighth overall pick of the 2011 draft. Fox Sports 1's Mike Garafolo and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Locker's retirement.

"I am retiring from football after much reflection and discussion with my family," Locker said in a statement, via Garafolo. "I will always be grateful for having had the opportunity to realize my childhood dream of playing in the NFL and for the lifelong relationships I developed because of that experience. Football has always played a pivotal role in my life and I love the game, but I no longer have the burning desire necessary to play the game for a living; to continue to do so would be unfair to the next organization with whom I would eventually sign. I realize this decision is surprising to many, but I know in my heart that it is the right decision and I look forward to spending more time with my family and pursuing other interests.”

The NFL isn't an easy life, especially for someone who had as many injuries as Locker. That's a main reason Locker never came close to living up to his draft status. He never played more than 11 games in a season. He was also inaccurate and the Titans didn't seem to make any effort to bring him back when his contract was up. If he is in fact done with the NFL, he'll finish with just 4,967 yards, 27 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.

The class of quarterbacks in free agency was already pretty weak, and it's certainly not any stronger with Locker walking away from the NFL.

News sport : Leandro Barbosa used Twitter to remind us that Glen Davis is a really bad flopper

This is how things work, now.

If the NBA doesn’t have your back, after they decide not to fine Los Angeles Clipper Glen Davis for flopping, you get to grab a Vine, hop onto Twitter, and remind each and every one of your 82,000-some followers that holy cow – Glen Davis really took flopping to a new level on Sunday.

You get ‘em, Leandro Barbosa (via PBT):

Barbosa had tweeted eight times without mentioning Davis after Sunday afternoon’s impressive Golden State Warriors win over Davis’ Clippers, but when the league decided not to penalize Davis for a move that even the ABC broadcasters were cackling about, Barbosa got his revenge in 140 characters or less.

If this gets 2,000 re-tweets, the league should retroactively fine Davis for the same amount of dollars, times ten.

Amazulu stun Wits

Premiership strugglers AmaZulu continued their revival with a spirited victory over Bidvest Wits at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

|||

Durban – Mbulelo Mabizela, Goodman Dlamini and Bonginkosi Ntuli were all on target as Premiership strugglers AmaZulu continued their revival with a spirited 3-1 victory over Bidvest Wits at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Tuesday night.

Veteran defender Mabizela thumped in the opener after 20 minutes against his former club, before Dlamini swept home the second, in the stoppage time of a first half the hosts dominated.

On-loan Mamelodi Sundowns forward Ntuli added a third after 51

minutes, before Burundian Papy Faty pulled a goal back on the hour.

But it proved a mere consolation as the league's bottom club held out for a deserved win, one that left them now only three points adrift of second-bottom Moroka Swallows.

Wits, meanwhile, dropped to fourth on the table after Orlando Pirates beat Chippa United 2-0 to leapfrog them into third.

Usuthu, who two weeks ago could not buy a win, now have two in three games thanks to a result based on a solid first-half showing.

They dominated most of the opening 45 minutes, with six attacking set-piece opportunities alone before the goal arrived.

Dlamini headed over a Marc van Heerden free-kick early on, before Bonginkosi Ntuli had a shot blocked after a sharp turn inside the box.

A rare Wits chance at the other end after 16 minutes ended with Jabulani Shongwe dragging well wide as the visitors struggled.

The goal arrived when another superb Van Heerden free-kick, this one from 20-yards out, was excellently blocked by Moeneeb Josephs, before the loose ball was put back into the penalty area by Robyn Johannes allowing Mabizela to thump in from close range.

Dlamini had another decent chance on the half-hour, but ballooned over, before a fine free-flowing move from the hosts then ended with Roscoe Pietersen slicing just wide from the edge of the box.

Wits had their best chance in the 37th minute when Shongwe escaped down the left and delivered a pin-point cross to the head of Sthembiso Ngcobo, who failed to hit the target from six yards out.

And with half time looming, the lead was doubled in emphatic fashion as Van Heerden quickly switched play from left to right, Ntuli delivered a first-time low ball and Dlamini was on hand to finish at the far post.

Six minutes after the break and it was 3-0 as a long ball from goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro was not dealt with by Cornelis Kwakman allowing Ntuli to intercept and the striker rounded Josephs before firing in from a tight angle.

AmaZulu almost added another goal when Mabizela's header towards the left corner was somehow finger-tipped away by Josephs.

Wits then pulled a goal back on the hour when Faty punished some indecisive defending with a powerful 25-yard drive beyond a stranded Murambadoro.

Despite pushing hard to try and get back into the game, the closest Gavin Hunt's men came to a goal was when substitute Markus Lecki forced Murambadoro into a scrambling low save to his left as the hosts held on. – Sapa

Pirates ease past struggling Chippa

Orlando Pirates cruised to victory over Chippa United courtesy of goals from Mpho Makola and Sifiso Myeni at the Orlando Stadium.

|||

Johannesburg – Orlando Pirates cruised to a 2-0 victory over Chippa United courtesy of goals from Mpho Makola and Sifiso Myeni at the Orlando Stadium.

After a dominant first-half that overpowered the visiting team, the Sea Robbers sailed away with the points in Soweto.

Chippa goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela was tested early in the clash when Myeni hit a snap-shot in the fourth minute on the edge of the box that the minder collected comfortably.

In the following move Myeni on the right flank provided an inch perfect cross to Makola, who diverted the ball in from close range in the sixth minute.

While Chippa’s attacking players struggled to combine for build-up play in the opposition half, Pirates were running circles creating numerous scoring opportunities in the opening stanza.

In the 16th minute industrious Pirates wing-back Thabo Matlaba beat his marker Ruben Cloete near the corner flag to hit a shot from an acute angle that Mzimela saved.

Pirates’ defensive stalwart Siyabonga Sangweni was also in the mood as he powered forward into the opposition half with the ball and fed through Makola, who was dispossessed by James Okwuosa.

The Buccaneers’ second goal came in the 27th minute through Myeni, who was the beneficiary of an assist from Thandani Ntshumayelo.

The Soweto-giants went into the interval in full control of the encounter with the Eastern Cape outfit having posed little threat to their defensive wall.

Pirates’ evergreen playmaker Oupa Manyisa dazzled the Chippa defence with a wonderful run on the flank that set-up Kermit Erasmus for a shot at goal that sailed over the posts in the 49th minute.

Manti Moholo broke free of the Pirates defence with his silky touches, but in the end his finishing let him down.

In the 54th minute midfielder enforcer Isaa Sarr stopped another opposition attack in its tracks when he niftily nicked the ball from Mhlengi Cele.

When it seemed like Chippa was stringing together the passes for a goal threatening move, their final touch in the Pirates penalty box was their undoing.

Chippa had a golden opportunity to pull a goal back when Andile Mbenyane beat a tackle from Rooi Mahamutsa to strike the ball agonisingly wide of the target. – Sapa

Mancini hints Toure wants Italy move

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has suggested his former player Yaya Toure wants to quit Manchester City for a move to Italy.

|||

Rome - Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has suggested his former player Yaya Toure wants to quit Manchester City for a move to Italy.

The Ivory Coast international has been with City for five years and won the Premier League title under Mancini in 2012.

“Yaya Toure? He's played in almost every league except for Germany and Italy,” the Italian told his club's website (www.inter.it) on Tuesday.

“If, as seems to be the case, he wants to try Serie A we'll look into the possibility (of signing him) but it won't be easy.

“He's a player with incredible technical ability. I've not come across many like him.”

Toure, who also won the Premier League with City last season, has played for clubs in Belgium, Ukraine, Greece and France but the most productive spell of his career was spent in Spain with Barcelona.

The midfield powerhouse won the Champions League, the Fifa World Club Cup, the Uefa Super Cup, two La Liga titles and one King's Cup crown at the Nou Camp.

Toure was also a pivotal member of the Ivory Coast team that won the African Nations Cup last month. – Reuters

News sport : Sam Bradford close to being dealt to Eagles for Nick Foles: report

The Eagles and Rams are about to close on a deal to trade quarterbacks, sending Sam Bradford from St. Louis in exchange for Nick Foles of Philadelphia. The deal was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN:

The move continues Philadelphia's total scorched-earth rebuilding program; Foles is just one year removed from an exceptional season behind center. Bradford, meanwhile has twice torn his left ACL in the last two seasons, each time ending his year. He played only seven games in 2013 and none at all in 2015.

Bradford is in the final year of his contract, which, along with a reported second-round pick from St. Louis, gives the Eagles a potential further trading chip in their apparent goal to move upward in the draft. Either that, or the Eagles are going into the season with Mark Sanchez and Sam Bradford as their quarterbacks.

News sport : So long Suh: Detroit Lions trade for defensive tackle Haloti Ngata

Haloti Ngata might not be Ndamukong Suh, but he's not too bad of a replacement for the Detroit Lions.

The Baltimore Ravens traded Ngata, the massive defensive tackle, to Detroit. That effectively replaces Suh on the Lions' line.

Ngata is a two-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler. He's almost impossible to move in the middle, an impossibly athletic 340-pounder. The Ravens tried to work out a restructured contract with Ngata, but traded him when that didn't happen according to the Baltimore Sun. He had an $8.5 million base salary due this season. Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com said the Lions sent fourth- and fifth-round picks for Ngata.

It's obviously a big blow to the Ravens, who have been the only team Ngata has played with for his nine NFL seasons. Ngata was a dominant force in the middle of the defense. He just turned 31, but the Lions clearly feel he still has some good years left.

The Lions' defense won't be the same without Suh, who agreed to a deal with the Miami Dolphins before free agency officially began on Tuesday. But replacing him with a five-time Pro Bowl tackle is a nice consolation.
