Henry slams Wenger abusers

Arsenal great Thierry Henry has criticised fans who verbally abused the club's manager Arsene Wenger in comments published by several British newspapers on Wednesday.

A small group of supporters were caught on camera barracking Wenger as he boarded a train following Arsenal's league defeat at Stoke City last month and Henry said the images had saddened him.

“I thought it was a joke,” said the former France international, who won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups under Wenger during his time at Arsenal.

“You can be upset, I totally understand that. But when I saw what happened at Stoke I was like, 'That's totally unnecessary.'

“Fans do have a voice, I totally understand that, but what I saw after the Stoke City game was out of order.

“You can express that you are upset, but to do it in that way was a bit too much. But in the game at the moment, unfortunately that's the way it is.”

News sport : Furniture store owes nearly $1.5 million in rebates after Ohio State win

Approximately 500 customers are getting free furniture thanks to Ohio State's win against Oregon.

Like many other big-game promotions, Morris Furniture Company ran a money-back special before Ohio State's College Football Playoff National Championship matchup against Oregon. The terms were simple; if Ohio State, the underdog, won the game by more than 7 points, customers who purchased more than $1,999 in furniture got their money back.

As you know, the Buckeyes won 42-20. The total value of the reimbursed purchases is near $1.5 million.

The promotion was good at 15 Ohio-area Morris Home Furnishings and Ashley Home Furniture stores. As you can imagine, the people who are benefitting from the promotion are incredibly happy.

From the Dayton Daily News.

"They are thrilled,” Morris Home Furniture Store vice president of marketing and advertising Rob Klaben said. “The promotion created a lot of great conversations in our showrooms.”

A third-party company underwrote the promotion and will pay out the money, Klaben said. Customers will have to return to the store to fill out a claim form to get their money back.

Asked if his company regretted making the promotion, Klaben said, “Absolutely not.”

“It’s been a great story for the Buckeyes and it has created good buzz for our stores,” Klaben said.

The promotion ran for roughly the last half of December.

It's also fitting that the 2014 season ends with a free furniture giveaway. After all, it began with one too. A College Station, Texas, Ashley Furniture Store gave away $1 million in free furniture after Texas A&M beat South Carolina in the first big-conference game of the season in August.

We'll see if Ashley stores keep the promotions going in 2015.

News sport : 2014 Driver Reviews: No. 4 Joey Logano

After doing exit interviews for Sprint Cup Series drivers in 2013, we're turning the tables. We want the drivers to sell themselves. So here are the resumés for all full-time Sprint Cup Series drivers in 2014. Then, at the end, we'll provide a summation of the driver's season in 150 words or less.

Name: Joey Logano

NASCAR Experience: Six full seasons in the Cup Series. Eight wins and 82 top-10 finishes.

Most recent team: Team Penske

Most recent season finish: 4th

2014 accomplishments: Five wins, 20 top-10 finishes. One of only four drivers all year to average a top-10 starting position.

Most memorable moment: Aside from the moment that title hopes disappeared at Homestead in the pits, it's the four-wide battle for the lead and eventual win at Richmond.

Fine, fine, fine. Here's the pit mistake too.

Strengths: Has wins on short, intermediate and 2.5 mile tracks. Fulfilling the potential that everyone saw a few years ago. And when you consider the next big things that haven't made it in NASCAR, that's a strength.

2015 goals: Yes, a championship is a goal, but it's imperative to show that 2014 is part of an upwards trajectory and not a temporary spike.

FTM's Take: The championship format runs the risk of making us only remember the most recent happening for the three drivers who missed out on the title at Homestead. And while Homestead was a positive outlier relative to season performance for Ryan Newman and Denny Hamlin, only remembering the jack mishap is unfair to Logano.

Five of his eight career wins came in 2014. Over the past two seasons, he's accrued half of his career top-10 finishes. And 60 percent of his career laps led happened over the previous season too.

Yes, it was a giant leap for Logano, and there's no reason to think that it won't continue. However, given the crowded nature of the top of the Cup heap and the random nature of the Chase format, a second-straight appearance in the final four is far from a guarantee; there's got to be a Hendrick car in the final four in 2015, right?

Logano's going to be in the Chase in 2015 and should be one of the best performers in the Cup Series again. It's just that getting back to the last race may have more to do with luck than season performance.

Previous reviews: No. 5 Brad Keselowski, No. 6 Jeff Gordon, No. 7 Matt Kenseth, No. 8 Dale Earnhardt Jr., No. 9 Carl Edwards, No. 10 Kyle Busch, No. 11 Jimmie Johnson, No. 12 Kurt Busch, No. 13 AJ Allmendinger, No. 14 Greg Biffle, No. 15 Kasey Kahne, No. 16 Aric Almirola, No. 17 Kyle Larson, No. 18, Jamie McMurray, No. 19 Clint Bowyer, No. 20, Austin Dillon, No. 21 Paul Menard, No. 22 Brian Vickers, No. 23 Marcos Ambrose, No. 24 Martin Truex Jr., No. 25 Tony Stewart, No. 26 Casey Mears, No. 27 Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 28, Danica Patrick, No. 29, Justin Allgaier, No. 30, David Gilliland, No. 31 Cole Whitt, No. 32 David Ragan, No. 33 Michael Annett, No. 34 Reed Sorenson, No. 35 Alex Bowman

Ronaldo’s son is a Messi fan

Cristiano Ronaldo's son Cris junior is a Lionel Messi fan the boy's father said after they met up with the Argentina captain at the Ballon D'Or ceremony.

Cristiano Ronaldo's son Cris junior is a Lionel Messi fan the boy's father said after they met up with the Argentina captain at the Ballon D'Or ceremony in Zurich.

After Ronaldo was named 2014 Ballon D'Or winner, beating four-time winner Messi into second place, the two players had a friendly exchange in the lobby of Zurich's Kongresshaus when Cris pointed at Messi and then stood up to greet him.

Real Madrid's Portugal captain Ronaldo told his arch-rival Messi: “He watches a video on the internet of all of us and he talks about you,” prompting a coy reaction from his son.

Barcelona forward Messi chuckled and asked the young Cristiano how he was doing.

“You are embarrassed now!” Ronaldo then laughed to his son.

News sport : Did Jameis Winston break transfer news on his Instagram account?

Houston quarterback John O'Korn is seeking a transfer. Was his new school revealed on Jameis Winston's Instagram account?

You're forgiven if you're immediately wondering how those two sentences fit together. We'll explain.

Winston was with O'Korn while attending Lakewood Church, the church of famous pastor Joel Osteen. The Florida State quarterback and likely high pick in the 2015 NFL draft posted a picture of the two together (and a picture of himself with Osteen) to his Instagram account with the following caption:

S/O to my dawg @johnokorn5 the next great QB at the University of Texas! for the great experience of attending @lakewoodchurch and having the honor to meet Mr. Joel Osteen #heavilyFavored

Here's the picture.

O'Korn transferring to Texas wouldn't be a surprise. The Longhorns have been mentioned as one of his possible landing spots and Texas is certainly in need of a quarterback. Tyrone Swoopes struggled in 2014 after replacing David Ash, who was forced to retire because of concussions.

O'Korn started the 2014 season as Houston's quarterback but lost his job to former receiver Greg Ward, who became the Cougars' starter as the season went on. O'Korn's last game as a starter was against UCF in October.

He finished the season 90-173 passing for 951 yards and threw for six touchdowns and eight interceptions.

News sport : Oregon's Arik Armstead heading to the NFL draft

Oregon defensive star Arik Armstead is going pro.

Armstead made his declaration official Tuesday night on Oregon's official website. A 6-8, 290-pound junior defensive lineman, he's a likely early pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

"After three years preparing with my teammates and coaches, I feel I'm ready to test myself at the next level," Armstead said via GoDucks.com. "All the support I've received from [Oregon defensive coordinator Ken Pellum] and [defensive line coach Ron Aiken], the rest of the Oregon coaches and staff and in my academics has prepared me to make this jump."

“I’ve had an awesome three years here, and I'm so happy I made the decision to be a Duck. I want to thank my coaches, the academic support and athletic training staffs, the Eugene community and Duck fans everywhere for supporting me throughout my three years here. I’ll always be a Duck.”

Armstead finished the 2014 season with 46 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. In Monday night's national title game, Armstead recovered the fumble Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones committed when he dropped the ball while scrambling to his right.

Eto’o set for early Everton exit?

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has indicated that Samuel Eto'o could be about to leave Goodison Park.

|||

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has indicated that Samuel Eto'o could be about to leave Goodison Park after revealing that two clubs have shown an interest in the veteran Cameroonian striker.

Eto'o, 33, missed Everton's FA Cup third-round penalty shootout defeat at West Ham United on Tuesday and Martinez said that his future at the club was under discussion.

“With Samuel, we have a really good relationship and we are looking at his situation,” Martinez told reporters in the wake of Everton's 9-8 defeat on penalties after a match that ended 2-2 following extra time.

“We had a couple of clubs contact us in the last 12 hours so I decided it was better now to leave him out of the squad and allow us a different focus in the group.

“We will decide (in the) next few days the next step. He's been fantastic for us, we've got a really good relationship and we will see what's (the) next best step for both.”

When asked if Eto'o had played his last game for Everton, Martinez replied: “No, I wouldn't say that.”

Bafana - from ‘losers’ to contenders

Under coach Shakes Mashaba, Bafana have not lost in 11games and are brimming with confidence ahead of Afcon 2015.

|||

Johannesburg – South Africa have rallied after a poor start to 2014, a year in which the team had to cope with the death of captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, who was killed in a burglary in late October. After years of disappointing results, the Bafana Bafana go into the Africa Cup of Nations with renewed confidence.

Last January South Africa's Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula referred to the national soccer team as “a bunch of losers” after they were knocked out of the opening round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

A year later it's a different picture for the 1996 Afcon champions.

The team, under new coach Shakes Mashaba, have not lost in 11games and are brimming with confidence ahead of the competition that starts in Equatorial Guinea on January 17.

“In 1996 we set the standard that we are championship material,” Mashaba told journalists in Johannesburg before the team's departure for the tournament.

“With this team we are trying to revive that spirit and show that we are one of the best

“We are coming back after the 10th of February after the final is played.”

Bafana Bafana (Boys, Boys) as the team is known, start their tournament with a Group C game against Africa's number one ranked Algeria in Mongomo on Monday.

Their other group games are against Senegal on January 23 and Ghana on January 27 in what is regarded as the tournament's “group of death.”

David Minchella, a journalist for South Africa's largest football newspaper Soccer Laduma, believes Mashaba's “over confident” remarks have placed unnecessary pressure on his players.

“We've never been the mentally strongest football team and so by setting such high and quite frankly unrealistic expectations of the team, I believe Shakes has set Bafana up to fail,” Minchella said.

“We'll be out in the group stages - I'm sorry to say. The relative ease of qualification was a false dawn.”

South Africa have not had to face a high pressure situation in a game since the start of their winning streak, said Minchella.

“When we do face adversity, we tend to crumble,” he said.

Bafana have performed dismally since they won the Afcon tournament in 1996, despite being one of the best resourced teams in Africa. They are currently ranked number 51 in the world.

The murder of captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa by a burglar late last year and stern mentoring by Mashaba appears, however, to have rallied the team.

Meyiwa, the team's goalkeeper, was shot in front of his girlfriend when two men entered a house in a neighbourhood outside of Johannesburg around 8 pm on October 26.

Mashaba, 63, who replaced Gordon Igesund in July last year, has coached Bafana before, between 2002 to 2004.

Bafana's preparations for the tournament began early in January with a 1-0 win in a warm-up match against former Afcon champions Zambia in Johannesburg.

On Sunday, they drew 1-1 with Cameroon in another warm-up game.

A host of players including striker Bernard Parker, midfielders Thuso Phala, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Bongani Zungu have made strong impressions as Mashaba tested new combinations.

Bafana captain Dean Furman was full of praise for his teammates after the Cameroon game.

“We got off to the worst possible start so early in the game and for about 20 minutes we didn't recover from that, but started picking up in the last 15 minutes of the first half,” Furman said.

“We had a good talk with the coach at half time and he told us to believe in our ability, believe in our team and that's what we did.”

The Afcon tournament kicks off in Bata on Saturday with Equatorial Guinea playing Congo. The final match is set for the same venue on February 8, 2015. – Sapa-dpa

Play Falcao or lose him

Radamel Falcao’s agent has cast fresh doubt on the striker’s Manchester United future by insisting he should play every week.

|||

Radamel Falcao’s agent has cast fresh doubt on the striker’s Manchester United future by insisting he should play every week.

Falcao was left out of the United squad by Louis van Gaal for the Barclays Premier League defeat at home by Southampton on Sunday and Sportsmail yesterday revealed the 28-year-old loanee has serious doubts about whether he will be offered a permanent contract at the end of the season.

Now Falcao’s representative Jorge Mendes has suggested the Colombia star, who has started just eight games under Van Gaal, would play regularly for any other team and admitted he may leave United in the summer.

Mendes — who hardly ever speaks publicly — said: ‘I don’t know (if he will stay). He is a fantastic player and I think it’s very difficult for Manchester United fans — they have an absolutely brilliant player, one of the

very best in the world, who would without any doubt play 90 minutes, every time, with any other club.

‘The truth is, now, we don’t know what will happen. What we do know is that he will play for one of the very best clubs in the world next season, whether that is Manchester United or not. I am 100 per cent sure of that. But you know how football works — we’ll see what happens.’

United have a close relationship with Mendes. He brought them Cristiano Ronaldo 10 years ago and currently represents stars such as goalkeeper David de Gea.

Understandably, the Old Trafford hierarchy would like to maintain that relationship but at the moment the benefits of paying £43million to keep Falcao beyond this season do not look obvious.

The former Atletico Madrid striker has scored only three goals for United and Mendes has revealed there is already interest from Italy, particularly Juventus.

Falcao is likely to be back in Van Gaal’s team this Saturday when United face QPR in London. Fellow striker Robin van Persie is struggling with an ankle injury and Falcao is the natural replacement.

Another United forward who is finding it difficult to get a look-in under Van Gaal is Adnan Januzaj — and the Belgian is expecting to be loaned out later this transfer window.

Last season he was courted by top clubs across Europe and, indeed, the England national team, after breaking through under previous boss David Moyes. – Daily Mail

Sanchez has the X-factor - Henry

Thierry Henry has given Alexis Sanchez the ultimate endorsement by declaring the Chilean his long-awaited successor at Arsenal.

|||

Thierry Henry has given Alexis Sanchez the ultimate endorsement by declaring the Chilean his long-awaited successor at Arsenal.

Sanchez’s exhilarating start to life in the Barclays Premier League has been one of the themes of the season and Henry saw at first hand on Sunday, in the 3-0 demolition of Stoke City, just how much the Emirates Stadium reveres the forward.

His deadly finishing, electrifying change of pace and raw power have led to comparisons with Henry, the greatest striker in the club’s history. And the Frenchman believes the comparisons are justified.

Arsenal have had good forwards since Henry left for Barcelona in 2007 — not least Robin van Persie — but Sanchez is threatening to be truly exceptional and Henry, who scored 228 times for the club, believes manager Arsene Wenger now has another figure with the X-factor.

Henry, who will begin his new career as a Sky analyst on Sunday, said: ‘Arsenal were looking for a player to deliver on a daily basis and they have found one. He is brilliant. He can read the game incredibly, as you saw with the goal on Sunday, and his work-rate is fantastic.

‘He scores goals and doesn’t need a lot of opportunities to put the ball in the net. That is very important.

‘He is a very, very good player and you know that if he is on tune, then Arsenal have a lot of chances to win the game. I am trying to think if there has been a better signing in the last five or six years. It is still early days but so far it is very good. He is doing extremely well. He is going to score goals but it is his all-round game that I am so impressed with. That has no price.

‘Arsenal fans have been waiting to have a player like that. Finally they have one. He struggled at the beginning, like everybody, but when he got into a rhythm, you can see the quality. We should all be happy with him. He is going to be a great player for many years.’

The question now, though, is focused on the quality around him. Wenger may have finally been able to put Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott on a pitch for the first time on Sunday but are Arsenal in danger of becoming too reliant on their £35million striker?

‘No,’ Henry replied bluntly. ‘In some of the games when he hasn’t appeared, Arsenal have won them. Sanchez didn’t have a great game against West Ham — and they won. He didn’t have a great game against QPR — and they won. So there you go.’

That might be true but Henry (below) accepted that when he was the spearhead of one of the greatest teams English football has seen, quality and support were all around him. This squad need to show they have the class to dispel the doubts.

‘It has to be a team effort,’ he said. ‘They don’t seem so far away. Having said that, they are still some distance from the first spot. It is going to take a team effort to get there.’

Henry was in Zurich on Monday for the Ballon D’Or award ceremony, an event that seemed to have more glitz and sparkle than a Hollywood premiere. His main duty was to hand over the trophy to Cristiano Ronaldo.

On the subject of Hollywood, talk inevitably turned to Steven Gerrard’s imminent move to LA Galaxy. A four-year stint in MLS with New York Red Bulls leaves Henry well placed to explain what the Liverpool captain can expect in California.

‘He will arrive in a team that is already on tune,’ said Henry. ‘They have either been winning or losing in the final every year and are a very good organisation.’

With that, Henry was ready to sweep out of Kongresshaus but not before he had delivered a message to the Arsenal fans who lambasted Wenger on a train platform after the defeat at Stoke. The treatment of his mentor, he felt, was a ‘joke’.

Henry added: ‘Fans do have a voice, I understand that. But what I saw after the Stoke game was out of order.

‘You can express that you are upset but to do it in that way was a bit too much. In the game at the moment, unfortunately, that is the way it is.’ – Daily Mail

Gerrard doubtful for Cup semi clash

Liverpool are anxiously monitoring Steven Gerrard’s fitness amid fears that he could miss the Capital One Cup semi-final showdown with Chelsea.

Liverpool are anxiously monitoring Steven Gerrard’s fitness amid fears that he could miss the Capital One Cup semi-final showdown with Chelsea.

The 34-year-old was substituted at half-time during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Sunderland to protect a tight hamstring.

He has subsequently received treatment at Liverpool’s Melwood training base but his involvement in the weekend trip to Aston Villa is in doubt.

With the first leg of the Capital One Cup tie played at Anfield 72 hours later, should Gerrard fail to appear at Villa Park, there would then be a question mark over whether he would be ready to face Jose Mourinho’s men.

Gerrard brings the curtain down on his glittering Anfield career at the end of the season and the perfect send-off would be to win a trophy before he joins LA Galaxy. The Capital One Cup perhaps offers the best chance to fulfil that dream.

No firm decisions will be made until later in the week and, until then, Gerrard will continue to work closely with Liverpool’s medical staff to maximise his chances of being involved in the match with Chelsea.

Daniel Sturridge is also unlikely to play in either leg of the semi-final. The striker has returned to training at Melwood following extensive treatment in the USA but the England international, who has not played since August 31 last year, has yet to join in a full training session.

Liverpool — preparing to open contract talks with Martin Skrtel, who has 18 months left on his deal — are desperate to bring Sturridge’s goal threat back into their team but, at the same time, they are also aware of the need to be patient.

It is looking certain, meanwhile, that Liverpool will return to Australia in the summer for their pre-season tour, with the likelihood being that they will play games in Brisbane and Adelaide.

A two-week tour of the Southern Hemisphere could also include a fixture in Macau and one in Indonesia.

When they played in Australia two years ago, a crowd of 95 000 saw them beat Melbourne Victory 2-0 in the MCG. – Daily Mail

Bafana make six changes for Mali clash

Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has made six changes to his side ahead of their friendly international against Mali.

|||

Johannesburg – Jackson Mabokgwane will make his first appearance in a Bafana Bafana jersey in one of six changes by Shakes Mashaba ahead of the country's friendly international against Mali on Wednesday night.

Wednesday's clash at Stade Monedan in Libreville, Gabon, is Bafana's final preparation game ahead of the start of the Africa Cup of Nations this weekend.

Brilliant Khuzwayo will make way for Mabokgwane in goal, while Darren Keet also starts on the bench.

All three goalkeepers will have had a run out before the start of the tournament, with Keet starting against Zambia earlier this month, and Khuzwayo starting in Bafana's 1-1 draw with Cameroon last weekend.

In defence, Siyabonga Nhlapho starts at right-back while Anele Ngcongca moves to central defence alongside Thulani Hlatshwayo.

Thabo Matlaba keeps his place at left-back.

Rivaldo Coetzee is rested and continues to nurse a knee injury.

Dean Furman keeps his spot in the middle of the park alongside Andile Jali, who will captain the team.

Thuso Phala and Mandla Masango take over from Themba Zwane and Oupa Manyisa on the flanks.

Bongani Ndulula returns to lead the attack along with Sibusiso Vilakazi, who came on from the bench to equalise against Cameroon.

Chiefs mulling over Nkhatha’s fate

Kaizer Chiefs are still weighing up their options about whether to let Kingston Nkhatha leave the club six months before his new deal with SuperSport United is due to begin at the end of the season.

|||

Johannesburg – Bobby Motaung says Kaizer Chiefs are still weighing up their options about whether to let Kingston Nkhatha leave the club six months before his new deal with SuperSport United is due to begin at the end of the season.

Nkhatha signed a three-year deal with United late last week, swapping Johannesburg for Pretoria when his current contract at Chiefs runs out in June.

“It puts us under pressure at this time of the season, in terms of us making up our minds whether we keep him or if he needs to go in January,” Motaung said of the Zimbabwean striker on Tuesday.

“We’re looking at various options. If we release him now, what options do we have? If we can’t release him now, what effect will it have on his game?”

According to contractual laws in the Premier Soccer League, a player who has entered into his final six months on his current contract is allowed to engage with other clubs about a possible move elsewhere.

United made the announcement via a statement last week, confirming that Nkhatha would be joining the Pretoria club in July.

Motaung revealed that Chiefs were made aware by Nkhatha that he was looking at a possible move away from Soweto due to his fractious relationship with Chiefs’ supporters, who have repeatedly booed and jeered him during matches.

“The player did mention to us that he was going to go home and discuss with his family about what he needs to do.

“We gave him that chance. SuperSport wrote to us to say that they are talking to him and we read about it in the news that he had signed.”

Motaung says Chiefs were prepared to offer Nkhatha a new deal, but admits the player’s desire to move elsewhere was a factor that could not be ignored.

“With the pressure from the supporters and everybody, I think maybe he was put in a corner where he had to make a call for himself.

“Can you imagine if we keep him by force and the supporters still boo him? The poor guy is not enjoying himself.”

According to Motaung, Nkhatha remains a valued member of the Chiefs setup and confirmed that he had been registered to take part in Chiefs’ Caf Champions League campaign, due to get underway next month.

“That’s why we are looking at those logistics (letting him join SuperSport this month) and how to deal with the challenges that we’re faced with now.” – Sapa

$4bn worth of international transfers

Fifa recorded international player transfers worth 4 billion dollars in 2014, according to Fifa general manager Mark Goddard.

|||

Zurich – Fifa recorded international player transfers worth 4 billion dollars in 2014, a high official of the governing body of world football said Tuesday.

“It's a considerable figure,” Fifa general manager Mark Goddard said in Zurich.

Goddard, who heads Fifa 's so-called Transfer Market System (TMS), said there are an additional 236 million dollars that go to agents and other intermediaries as commission.

Spain was the country that got the most money in transfers, 667million dollars, while England spent the most, 1.2 billion dollars, based on Fifa figures.

Brazil was once again the country that generated the most transfers, a total of 1 493.

TMS, which has been active since 2010, is in charge of regulating the global transfer market in order to ensure greater transparency, prevent money laundering and protect underage players, among others.

It was TMS rules on underage players that Barcelona violated, resulting in a one-year signing ban recently confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

“That case is particularly important for us,” Goddars admitted. “This shows that the rules are the same for everyone.”

The ban on Barcelona is set to expire in January 2016. It is a punishment for the irregular signings of 10 underage foreign players, who were not registered with the TMS as required.

“These players were not in the system, that's all,” Goddard said.

The broader issue, he said, is where these young footballers actually came from. Goddard also noted that he did not know whether those players are still in Barcelona.

“What is certain is that they have been banned from playing,” he said.

Goddard said he did not know whether Barcelona were trying to clarify the players' status, and noted that, if they did try, the outcome would be decided case by case.

Goddard would not say how Fifa found out about Barcelona's rule violations.

“That would make our research work harder,” he said.

He mentioned reporters and other clubs as usual sources of information for the TMS, and said there are other ongoing investigations involving both underage players and other aspects of the TMS.

The TMS does not record signings between clubs that are in the same country, although it has developed a similar platform for the use of national federations.

The Netherlands is already using that system, and Goddard noted that seven further European countries are interested in using it too, although he did not give further details. – Sapa-dpa
