News sport : Cincinnati forces overtime with dramatic layup then beats Purdue

Cincinnati came from seven points down in the final minute to force overtime with Purdue on a crazy layup from Troy Caupain that rolled around the entire rim and hung on the back of the rim for a split second before dropping through.

Purdue missed two free throws and four 3-point shots in the overtime and the Bearcats won 66-65 to advance to the second round.

But it was Caupain's drive to the basket and his shot at the end of regulation that will be remembered most from this one. Caupain scored six of his 10 points in that pivotal final minute of regulation for the Bearcats and in overtime.

The Bearcats victory was a feel good moment on a wild first-day of the tournament. They have been playing since December without coach Mick Cronin, who has been sidelined with health problems. Cronin did travel with the team to Louisville. He tweeted a selfie with assistant coach Larry Davis being interviewed on a television screen behind him.

Cincinnait's reward is a likely matchup with No. 1 overall seed Kentucky on Saturday.
