Jordan Henderson is ready to help Liverpool hunt down Manchester City and believes 10 more wins will catapult his side back into the Champions League.
The England international was a major doubt for Sunday’s clash with the champions but played through the pain and scored a magnificent goal in a 2-1 victory that has taken Liverpool to within seven points of City.
When Liverpool last lost in the Barclays Premier League on December 14, they were 15 points adrift of City but Brendan Rodgers’ squad now have such momentum that it would not take a great leap of the imagination to see them cutting the gap even further.
Asked if Liverpool had enough time to catch City, Henderson replied: ‘Listen, it’s always possible. The main thing to do would be to concentrate on ourselves as much as we can, keep the momentum going and see where it takes us really.
‘We have just got to aim to win every game. I think we have got the ability to do that.
‘We have got a good enough squad but we just have to make sure that we don’t get too carried away with the result. But it is a big result and it gives us a lot of confidence. We are going to give it a real go.’
Liverpool face Burnley tomorrow and Rodgers, who yesterday revealed that Jordon Ibe has damaged knee ligaments and will miss four weeks, is going to use the contest as another step forward in Daniel Sturridge’s recovery.
Sturridge only came on as a substitute against City but Rodgers says he is getting closer to full fitness and once the England international is there, his manager expects him to light up Liverpool’s new 3-4-3 formation.
‘Come the end of this week Daniel will be on a great run and able to play every game and to train,’ said Rodgers. ‘He felt good against City on the back of playing Thursday, he’s very determined to play and when you see a fully fit Daniel, he will be brilliant.’ – Daily Mail
