Johannesburg – First-half strikes from Toriq Losper and Erwin Isaacs secured a 2-1 Premiership victory for Ajax Cape Town over SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday night.

Ajax wasted little time when Losper opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Against the run of play and with the first clear scoring chance, his clinical finish put the visitors ahead.

United looked to retaliate immediately when Thuso Phala played Dove Wome through on goal, but the striker's shot flew wide of the target.

Having suffered their biggest defeat last week when they lost 5-2 to AmaZulu, the Tshwane club continued to show signs of a leaky defence.

Just before the half-hour mark, the Urban Warriors doubled their lead. The youthful, hard-running Isaacs punished the sub par United resistance.

Having started the encounter with a conservative line-up, coach Gordon Igesund threw in Bradley Grobler and David Mathebula to spark the attack while Ajax striker Nathan Paulse was bothering the hosts with his aerial prowess.

While United launched an all-out attack on the Cape side, there remained the danger of conceding again on the counter-attack.

Jeremy Brockie had a chance in the 38th minute to pull one back for Matsatsantsa, but he was blocked by defender Mosa Lebusa.

United had another scuffed chance to head into the interval with their heads held high, but Mathebula failed to beat his marker Rivaldo Coetsee, who dispossessed him.

Phala got onto the scoresheet for the home side but the goal in the 56th minute proved inconsequential as Ajax marched away with the points. – Sapa
