News sport : Top H.S. recruit Josh Sweat makes committment

Top defensive end Josh Sweat, the 6-foot-five, 240-pound senior who started the year as the nation's top recruit, has kept college recruiters guessing all season. On Wednesday morning, he gave them their answer. Or, to be fair, his mom gave his answer.

As of last week analysts said Sweat had narrowed the field of teams down to five, featuring Florida State, Oregon, Georgia, Virginia Tech and Ohio State.

Wednesday morning it looked like Sweat was going to follow the trend, picking the hat that matched his choice. Instead, he let his mom do the honor.

As soon as she showed off the sweatshirt, Sweat did a Tomahawk chop, then hugged his mom and shook his dad's hand.

Sweat came into his senior year at Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) as the top recruit in the country. An early-season knee injury lowered his stock slightly, though he is still in the top 5 on some polls.

Rivals.com had him at No. 5 at the end of November but dropped him to No. 31 last week.

Sweat is the sixth player on the Class of 2015 Rivals 100 to verbally commit to play for Jimbo Fisher and the Seminoles next year. He'll be getting a jump start on his future teammates, as he plans to graduate from high school next month and enroll in spring classes at FSU.
