Utah's Kaelin Clay drops ball before crossing goal line, Oregon returns fumble for TD (GIFs)

One of the wackiest plays of the year changed the course of Saturday night's Pac-12 showdown between Utah and Oregon.

On a third down play, Utah quarterback Travis Wilson found wideout Kaelin Clay on a deep slant. The speedy Clay separated himself from the Oregon defenders and ran toward the endzone for what appeared to be a 79-yard touchdown that would give the Utes a 14-0.

There was a problem, however.

Right before Clay crossed the goal line, he inexplicably dropped the ball.

As the Utah players celebrated what appeared to be a touchdown, the ball was picked up by defensive back Erick Dargan near the goal line. In a scramble with a Utah player, Dargan then fumbled and linebacker Joe Walker scooped up the loose ball.

With a convoy of blockers in front of him, the 6-foot-2, 240-pound Walker returned the fumble 100 yards for a Ducks touchdown, capping off a wild play.

Instead of taking a 14-0 lead, the wild sequence of events allowed the fourth-ranked Ducks to tie the ballgame. Since then, Oregon has added two more scores to take a 21-7 lead late in the first half.
