Pretoria - Golden Arrows continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 away win over SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday night.

Two first-half goals by Trevor Mathiane and Kuda Mahachi saw Arrows record their third win of the campaign.

Kingston Nkhatha's second-half strike for the home side wasn't enough to save SuperSport from slumping to their fourth defeat of the season.

The home team made a bright start to the match when they had two chances in the first minute of the clash. Winger Thuso Phala's shot was deflected wide, while defender Clayton Daniels's effort from the resulting corner missed the goal to the right.

Arrows have been playing some top football after gaining promotion to the top flight at the end of last season. They play without fear, and when they get forward, they do so in numbers.

Striker Mabhuti Khenyeza had the visitors' first chance of the half from a free kick after he was fouled by Daniels.

However, the former Bafana Bafana striker directed his effort straight at Ronwen Williams in the SuperSport goal.

Three minutes later Mahachi tried his luck, but he also missed to the right of the target.

But Arrows would be rewarded for their endeavour in the 16th minute when Khenyeza set up Mathiane to tuck the ball away with a composed right-footed finish.

SuperSport tried to fight back towards the end of the first half, with Nkhatha going narrowly wide in the 33rd minute.

But Arrows would double their lead two minutes before the break when Khenyeza provided another assist. This time it would be Mahachi who slotted the ball home past Williams.

SuperSport looked like a totally different team after the break following a flat performance in the first half. In first 10 minutes of the second half, the home team's captain Dean Furman saw his shot deflected wide, while Nkhatha had a goal disallowed for offside. Nkhatha would eventually pull one goal back in the 65th minute to make it 2-1 after a lovely assist by his fellow frontman Jeremy Brockie.

Veteran midfielder David Mathebula could have equalised for SuperSport in the 70th minute, but his shot didn't have enough venom to beat Maximilian Mbaevu in the Arrows goal.

Thembela Sikhakhane then almost restored Arrows' two-goal lead a minute later, but Williams managed to punch his effort away. The last 10 minutes of the match was quite an entertaining affair, with both teams creating a few half chances. But in the end Arrows held on for an important away win. - ANA
