Louis van Gaal admits he is no closer to discovering Manchester United’s best formation after seven months at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman has reverted to a back four in recent games — despite confessing it leaves him ‘twitching my a***’ — and has come under fire for playing striker Wayne Rooney in a deeper role
.Asked if he knows his best system, the United boss said: ‘No, I don’t think so, and that’s also the difficulty of this system. I have played five or six systems and I’m still looking for the balance. But results are not bad and we’re scoring goals.’
Paul Scholes has become the latest former United player to criticise Van Gaal’s side, saying that watching United is ‘miserable’.Van Gaal’s response was: ‘I don’t worry about that. It’s not so interesting. Scholes is one of the fans and fans can criticise us, not a problem.’ Van Gaal admitted United were lucky to beat Burnley in midweek and warned they will go out of the FA Cup if they play as badly again at Preston in their fifth-round tie on Monday.– Daily Mail
