GATORADE SHOWER

(1985-2014)

We gather today to mourn the passing of Gatorade Shower at the age of 29. Gatorade Shower entered this world on October 20, 1985, when members of the New York Giants doused then-head coach Bill Parcells after a key divisional victory over the Washington Redskins. Gatorade Shower then enjoyed a happy and fruitful if increasingly cliched life, present at celebrations ranging from Super Bowls to weddings. While Gatorade Shower's relevance had declined in recent years, Gatorade Shower's presence at a game always signaled significance and celebration of worthy triumph.

Gatorade Shower died on December 7, 2014, when the Oakland Raiders performed the ritual on head coach Tony Sparano. The Raiders had just won only their second game of the entire season, a 24-13 victory over the suddenly hapless 49ers. Bearing in mind that this shower-inducing second victory of 2014 came in December, cause of death was thus deemed farcical irrelevance.

Gatorade Shower is survived by a child, Shaving Cream Pie, and two grandchildren, Photobomb and Over-The-Top Sideline Interview. Funeral services will be held throughout the college football bowl season. At the services, mourners are requested to sip Gatorade rather than dump it over heads of themselves or any others.
