Good thing Evander Kane has his money phone. It might come in handy should the Department of Player Safety deem it necessary after his actions on Sunday afternoon.
In an increasingly chippy game, the Winnipeg Jets forward took a run at Anaheim defenseman Clayton Stoner. After releasing a pass up ice, Stoner is caught puck watching as Kane slams into him. With Stoner's shoulders square to the boards, Kane saw the Ducks d-man the whole way in and did not change course as he made his check. Take a look...
Other angles of the hit can be seen here and here.
Stoner was not injured on the play. Lilliputian Ducks defenseman Sami Vatanen went after Kane following the hit. Knowing his defensive partner was outmatched (and as he is known to do), Stoner turned around and started throwing hay makers at Kane, who kept his gloves on.
The result of the play was a two-minute roughing minor for Stoner and Kane received a five-minute major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct. The Ducks did not score on the resulting major.
How the DoPS handles this one will be interesting. It definitely was boarding, but not as vicious as other clearly suspendable hits. Perhaps it's just a fine?
