Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town did just enough to edge out Bloemfontein Celtic in a 1-0 Premiership win at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Both sides set out to play some attacking football in the opening minutes, making for an open game.
There was a chance apiece early on as Keegan Ritchie blazed a free-kick inches over the crossbar for the visitors, before Thabiso Nkoana was denied by a fine reflex save by Patrick Tignyemb 10 minutes in.
Neither side were able to create any clear-cut chances as Ajax saw another two opportunities going to waste when Nathan Paulse and Milton Ncube shot wide, while at the other end, Ritchie skewed a drive off the side of his foot.
The game was in dire need of a goal, and it was Granwald Scott who obliged, putting the Urban Warriors ahead in the 39th minute when he fired in a stunning drive from 25-yards out, picking out the top corner after being set-up by Bantu Mzwakali.
Having hardly had any work to do, Ajax shot-stopper Anssi Jaakkola made a superb save in the 65th minute when he showed strong hands to keep out Gregory Maasdorp's stinging drive from 14-yards out.
The game remained tightly poised, with Ajax looking for a second goal to secure their win. But when the chance came, eight minutes from time, Tashreeq Morris squandered a great chance when he sent a curling shot over the bar after having made space to shoot inside the box.
Lerato Lamola had a last gap chance to earn a share of the spoils for Celtic, but after being clean through on goal in the 90th minute, Jaakkola again came to the rescue with a fantastic block to ensure the Urban Warriors earned all three points for the first time in three matches.
