News sport : UNLV head coach Bobby Hauck to resign Monday

Oct 25, 2014; Logan, UT, USA; UNLV Rebels head coach Bobby Hauck walks his sideline in the first quarter against the Utah State Aggies at Romney Stadium. (Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports) The 2014 season will be the last for Bobby Hauck at UNLV.

Hauck will announce his resignation on Monday after coaching the Rebels against Nevada at home on Saturday night, UNLV athletic director Tina Kinzer-Murphy announced Friday.

“Bobby Hauck submitted his resignation, effective Monday, and I have accepted it,” Kunzer-Murphy said. “No one has worked harder in trying to achieve consistent success with our football program than Coach Hauck and we thank him for his dedication and leadership. He and his staff have worked tirelessly in trying to achieve the results we all want to see but it unfortunately has not happened. We wish Bobby and his family the very best in their future endeavors.”

Hauck is finishing his fifth year with the program and had two years remaining on his contract. Heading into Saturday’s game, Hauck has a 15-48 overall record with the program.

After winning just two games in each of his first three seasons with the program, Hauck led the Rebels to seven wins and a bowl game in 2013. It marked the first winning season and bowl appearance for the program since 2000. However, the Rebels have struggled to a 2-10 record (1-6 in Mountain West play) this season and have lost their last five games.

“We were given an opportunity to get it done here at UNLV and we simply did not win enough games,” Hauck said in a statement. “It’s my responsibility to push the program forward and I wish we would have produced better results. I would like to thank our University leadership for their support of our program; in particular, President Don Snyder, Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy and Board of Regents Chair Kevin Page. In addition, I would like to thank our student body, alumni and community leaders for their support of Rebel Football.”

Before taking over at UNLV, Hauck was the head coach at Montana for seven seasons where he racked up an 80-17 record.
