UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley had one of his best games of the season in the Bruins’ resounding victory over rival USC on Saturday night. Now it looks like that will be the last time Hundley faces the Trojans.
The redshirt junior appeared on The Jim Rome Show on Monday and admitted that this is likely his last year in college when asked if Saturday night would be his last game against USC.
“I think the chances are really high,” Hundley said. “The conversation keeps coming up. I’ve got my degree. I’ve done everything I wanted to do here. I’ve left something that’s really, truly great and I feel good. That was probably my last one against USC.”
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. He almost left after last season but decided to return to school to work on certain aspects of his game.
Three weeks ago, Hundley admitted that the pressure of trying to improve for the NFL affected his play early in the season. He said he “changed his game” in order to improve his draft stock instead of doing what made him successful in the first place.
“When you want to go to the next level, you want to show people you can do things,” Hundley said after beating Arizona on Nov. 1. “Sometimes it changed your game, honestly. People don’t realize how much pressure there is, but at the end of the day, when you think about what got you to this point, you have to stay on your foundation. Even though there’s a future ahead that you want to get to, you can’t focus on that, honestly, because it will really throw your game off.”
For the season, Hundley has thrown for 2,873 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 72 percent of his passes. He also added 566 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
Hundley has until January 15 to decide if he will declare of the 2015 draft, but after hearing his comments on Monday, it sounds like he has already made up his mind.
